Monday Night Art Class

Kathy Darst art student in Paige Bridges' Monday Night Class

Kathy Darst, right.

Most of the girls are working with pastel on sanded paper. Notice that Kathy is standing before an oversize piece of sanded paper. It is twice the regular size we usually choose to work on ... But that's typical of this bold student!

 Janna Hengy and Boo

The photo at right shows Janna Hengy with my art class cat Boo, when he was still a little tike. When I snapped this, I decided a good title for it would be: "Why Janna Doesn't paint any more!" Actually, though, she's a very prolific artist.

Here the other side of the room is in various stages of work. Patty Lovvorn, below, is tackling a huge oil on canvas of her step-son on his prize cutting horse!

Patty Lovvorn

Patty paints while my cat Boo sleeps in the chair beside her - a common scene with all my classes. Most of my students are pretty tolerant of this feisty little boy of mine. You could never tell from this picture how rotten he really is! Sometimes it's even a relief to me when he crawls off to take a nap and gives us all a break.

Tuesday Morning Art Class

Cathy Peel art student in Paige Bridges' Tuesday Morning Art Class

Cathy Peel (left)

is trying out a brand new technique for her. She is working on an oversized acrylic portrait of her younger daughter Lauren, who is known to everyone as a very out-going - even flamboyant - girl.

This piece is being put together like a paint-by-number after a photo of Lauren that was altered by a computer program.

 Linda Polston

Linda Polston, (right) listens as she is given some more encouragement for her fabulous painting of a Blue Bird. (Wills Point, our town, is officially The Blue Bird Capital of Texas!)

Kathy Goleman

Jan Sparks

(Left) Jan Sparks is working on a special pastel painting for the Cartwright School which was once Wills Point's "colored school." Today it has been remodeled and transformed into a community center and this little pastel will be donated to the school. It is of a former sandwich shop that was a neighborhood fixture for many years. Jan is working from the only known photograph in existence.

(Right) Check out the detail in Kathy Goleman's pastel painting ... This is after a family photograph of two very famous people: Darrell Royal and Willie Nelson, engrossed in a chess match.  Beautiful job, Kathy!

Kathy Goleman and Boo with Mosaic of Abbey Road

(Left) This is Kathy Goleman, again, with a special mosaic she created. (Kathy teaches mosaic!) This piece is fashioned after the famous Beatles album called "Abbey Road." The 4 young men in this one are her relatives though ...

Vysta Tucker

(Right) Vysta Tucker is tackling a dog portrait in Pastel on sanded paper. This is a life-size image of her own pet called "Liberty Bell." Vysta has only been painting a couple of years but has turned out some very impressive pieces.

(Right) No, it's not all work all the time! Susan Jump brought her father John to class one day and I teased him into putting on a set of wax "lips" like we used to wear when we were kids. He was a good sport and posed for this silly photo.
